The Ride at Disneyland and Walt Disney World
Pirates of the Caribbean was developed in the late 1950s originally as as a walk-through wax museum at Disneyland that would have featured depictions of real pirates in static scenes. Luckily for us, Disney Imagineers utilized the technological breakthroughs to transform the most popular attraction at Disneyland into a rollicking boat ride through pirate-fueled environments complete with fictional audioAanimatronic pirates ransacking a Caribbean seaport.
The attraction’s theme song, “Yo Ho (A Pirate’s Life for Me)”, sets a light-hearted tone for what were seen as violent criminals. After exposure to this catchy song, it’s becomes easy to singalong to the music.
The Pirates of the Caribbean is the last Disney theme park attraction designed with input from Walt Disney which debuted in New Orleans Square at Disneyland on March 18, 1967. Since then, it has been replicated in different forms at three subsequent Disney theme parks &emdash; Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World Resort, Tokyo Disneyland and Disneyland Paris.
Due to the attractions popularity, Disney has capitalized on it by producing three blockbuster movies based on the themed ride’s premise. The three movies have generated over $4.3 billion for the Walt Disney Company.
